The eagerly awaited Peril in Peru set has now appeard in Toys R Us across the UK. The box is marked with "Limited Edition" so it won't be around for long and they're likely to be snapped up quickly. The question is are they worth it ?

Except for the pilot the figures are found in all the other Indiana sets, so no real exclusives. Three of them can be found in the cheap "Jungle Duel" playset and the colonel and soldier in "Jungle Cutter". However that works out at the same cost as this set, so all seems fair. Actually six figures in a £40 set is pretty good going. As a bonus you get a single crystal skull for Irina.

In the first bag we find the small jeep, a simple build but nice all the same. Plenty of small dark green pieces and a nice use of the neck bracket pieces.

A front view. The vehicle is built with a fifties style.

A rear view. No seat for the driver !!

Next up is the tractor and presumably baggage cart.

At least it has a seat, but it appears a bit blocky and quite wide at the back with the wheel arches overhanging.

Finally the stairs and lots of accessories. There are plenty of weapons here, rifle, pistol , machine gun, various swords and knifes plus some handcuffs. We also get the usual crates and drums.

Onto the plane itself. It's nice that it's mainly brick built except for the larger pieces in the fuselage. As you can see two of them are transparent to provide the windows. Unfortunately the detail is then added with stickers which is a shame. There is also a hinged door to provide access to the interior.

Unfortunately there isn't any interior. No seats or nothing, so the passengers may be in for a rough ride.

Underneath we have a retractable undercarriage provided by a couple of technic liftarms. You can see the far wheel retracted back. A nice simple feature which adds some functionality.

A front view. It's nice to see brick built wings rather than single pieces. Plenty of options for reuse.

A rear view.

Finally as you're bound to ask, the cockpit. Again there's no seat and very little detail apart from a console brick and steering wheel.

All in all at £40 this set has a lot going for it. There's plenty of playability for the kids and the plane is a nice example of a fifties turbo prop. The colour scheme is effective using navy blue and yellow and gives us an interesting selection of parts. There are also plenty of accessories for the six figures. If your a fan of Indiana Jones then I'd recommend this set over almost all of the others, particularly as it's likely to have a limited run. Even if your not a fan there's a great selection of pieces for your own projects.
